Intellectual-Property Agreements: Are You Managing Your Rights?
Colleges use a variety of agreements to secure intellectual-property rights from their faculty members and then license those rights to third parties. In view of recent federal appeals-court decisions, they should carefully review two of the more common methods: the standard licensing agreement and the assignment agreement. The facts in each case illustrate typical scenarios that could result in unexpected consequences for many institutions.
