Vermont Professor Faces Charges After Animals Are Found Dead or Dying in Lab
A professor at Johnson State College, in northern Vermont, faces criminal charges after dozens of reptiles and other animals were found dead or dying in a science laboratory this past summer, according to WCAX, a television station in Burlington, Vt. The animals were used mainly for demonstration and education purposes, not research, the student newspaper reported in September, shortly after the lab was closed. The professor who directed the lab, John Wrazen, is accused of importing and stocking wild animals without a permit. He is on paid administrative leave.

When I was a grad student, we had a professor in a similar situation. A teaching lab with live animals that was VERY poorly maintained. The grad student placed "in charge" of the lab was rarely supervised, and had little/no training or experience in live animal care. It was a reprehensible situation.
People like this give the rest of us who possess live organisms a bad name, and encourages the rise of even more bureaucratic red tape. Thanks a lot, John Wrazen.

So I am glad, that my tuition money as a student, is going for his leave. I was here this summer when they found out what happened. I think they should have seen this coming, there were personal matters that could not be ignored about him, and yet the School did nothing before there was a complaint of dead animals. It is sad that we are so blind to this kind of stuff.

I am a former student of John's. He was one of the best teachers I ever had he has such a passion for animals, as did I. I also did animal presentations with him teaching children of all ages ranging from K-12. He loved his animals and he showed it during his presentations, you can tell just by his enthusiasm. He loved teaching the little children especially. The children showed so much interest in his presentations and there eyes would glitter with excitment. Thats what he loved teaching and his animals!! I also helped in his animal lab I did a work study for a year with him helping him and his animals. And he always supervised me while I was there cleaning/feeding and handling his animals. He always took great care of his animals he took better care of his animals then he did himself. One time one of his animals was sick and so he actually stayed home to take care of it. I diffently think there is way more to the story then what is being told here!
And as for "personal matters" some of the staff/facutly there did not like John for some unknown reason maybe because he was different. Well I'm glad that he is different. And as I mentioned in the first sentence he was and still is the best teacher I ever had!!So please keep an open mind especially if YOU don't know all the facts!
